Sunday Sunset Amidst Monuments!
There is something magical, mystical about monuments - they are silent yet they whisper to those who listen and tell you about their pasts. What exactly might have happened centuries ago is only a guesswork. Inferential yet subjective.
So at times it seems achievable to a non historian like me. Its interesting to guess "what might have happened here centuries ago". This makes you stay and listen to them through their arches, scriptures, emblems, stonework. They ask you to stay & admire & listen !

An advantage of being in Delhi NCR is you can always head on to any of these mystical places. And choose to give history, a long gone by era to come alive when given a chance.
Today we grabbed our opportunity & set out to explore Qutab Minar & nearby areas.
The chosen mode of transport was metro for sheer comfort and reliability. We reached Qutab Minar metro station and through an auto landed at the monument gates.

Inundated by The majestic Structure , Millions of Minar admirers around me !! |
And WOAH - we Never expected such a HUGE turnout at a forlorn stone tower !!
Qutab Minar is a historians dream with so many in history to have contributed to its making - namely Qutab -ud-din Aibak , Illtumish, Firoz Shah Tughlaq. Then it has a mosque , Illtumish tomb and other buildings inside its campus.
Wiki Qutab Minar
But it's all scattered.
It would have been wonderful to see the entire place in context of each other- to bring out a story alive. The Famous iron pillar is now barricaded so you can't ask for a wish akin to cheeni kum movie :)

We took our pics, absorbed the STILLNESS of the place and moved on to our next stop.- Mehrauli Archaeological Park Wiki Mehrauli Archaeological Park
The place is deserted and strong advice is to visit it only in bright daylight.
The Google will help u land to entrance and then to Jamali Kamali mosque a peaceful delight away from the chaos at Qutab Minar area.
It is this area that tourists should throng !!! Its Damn beautiful, and peaceful.
You seem to ask for a permission before you can disturb the pin drop silence here.

Jamali Kamali Mosque n Tomb - Deserted but Standing true to itself |
The entrance board is enticing enough. The mosque and tomb named jamali - kamali, where kamali's identity is not known. Now that is interesting right...

Jamali Kamali Mosque- Note that it reads Kamali is not yet identified |
Next we moved to rajon ki baoli. Archaeological park has a beautiful trail and asking people or Google will help one navigate.

Kids enjoying themselves enroute |
Rajon ki baoli is a cool place. Has 3 wide steps followed by water- the atmosphere is lovely and with security Guard present here which we were happy to observe you could spend some moments of solace.
At this point let me confess I was little scared & tired too. So we couldn't venture much ahead.
Although if going in a group one must cover 2 more baolis that Mehrauli arch park boasts off-road. These were used as resting place by people in old times.
Overall a Wonderful Visit - especially the charming trail within the Mehrauli Archaeological park enthralled us.
A must visit for Picnic or Group outings if one is looking for atypical outing spots.
It is indeed interesting to visit and re-visit our heritage, which we dont seem to value. Your write up has encouraged me to visit these places once again :)
