Book Review : Inferno - Fantastic Read !!


Having read "Da Vinci code" from Dan brown & seen "Angels & demons" - I had a perception of how to receive the new release "Inferno". 
{ was thrilled to receive on my birthday }

Well, it didn't disappoint me at all.A heady mixture of literature, arts, ancient cities along with the deep research are the traits the author exhibits in this novel too.
Go or not go - Both good and bad about the book - 
Bad point : The book though turns like a guide in between - wherein i confessed to have skipped a page or two where author rambles about murals or churches of Florence....Other than that its a fantastic read like his other works..
Good point : The author touches a more practical subject of overpopulation which I liked - the villanious Doctor Zobrist - may seem a philanthropist to many who read this novel. It strikes a fear among the readers to know that INFACT overpopulation is a  bomb ticking continuously.
Dan brown's declaration in the beginning that there are traces of truth to the fictional book - keeps one glued.
It is not an enormously upheaval ride like Da vinci code - but rather has a soothing effect on the reader. The book introduces reader to the beautiful city of Florence, Italy and an amnesia struck protagonist - Robert Langdon. 

50% of story is about Robert trying to remember & re-discover what he had already accomplished in his quest because of his memory loss. He is joined by a supremely intelligent girl Sienna Brooks and they are together in this "journey" to unlock the mystery of a virus/plague created by a controversial doctor Zobrist.
 WHO and a secret society "Consortium" - are the heavyweights - which give Langdon & Sienna a chase as they escape & cross countries in their quest.

Through the negative character of Doctor Zobrist-  author takes us through the beautiful literature  of 14th Century , poem "The divine comedy" by Dante Agliheri. 
Zobrist - is a fanatic and in his attempt to overcome the problem of overpopulation he designs something hazardous for the entire mankind , after which he himself commits suicide. Before his suicide - he decides the exact date on which the hell must break out.

Both Sienna & Robert unravel the mystery hidden in "divine comedy" to understand Zobrist & his plans. What role do WHO & Consortium play in the entire sequence? Why are they chasing Robert & Sienna? The shroud of mystery never weakens - and keeps the reader interested.

While splurging on books at Delhi book fair '14 I came across this masterpiece. An intriguing tale of the challenging condition of farmers/ workers in the developing world forming the foundation of much of world's key raw materials yet themselves living only on daily subsistence. What is much much appreciated is the passion the author displays in this work - wherein he himself has traveled across countries of the globe and understood the plight of Chinese factory workers, African coffee workers, Afghanistan's weed farmers etc. The fact that story comes from the horse's mouth adds the drama & authenticity which one needs in books like these. The reader can trust the facts stated in book & form his own perspectives. Connor starts with how we as consumers are increasingly becoming ethical centric in terms of goods we buy. Nanaji - To you with Love

There are times in one's life where we are fortunate enough to meet a great personality who has an enduring impact on you. They become your inspiration and aspiration. After a Long time in my life I think I met a person like Nanaji(Akshays Nanji) who had everything I wanted to be. Perfect Human Being , Truthful , Smart, apolitical, Gentle, Kind . At the same time tolerant. This all with a so much willpower that one would get scared by the enormity of his character. He was someone who could never be affected by another person's wrong or foolish behavior.  A very very well travelled man , a business man, Allahabad University professor, tour manager for Jain pilgrimages, writer & publisher of children's' books, owner of Jain temple in a place close to Allahabad & what not. Everyone all at the same time. Some personal anecdotes with Nanaji - # On one of our temple visits we lost way . Only me and Nanji were travelling with a crude, ruthless cab driver.

A mom's realization on the birthday night.
