Kerala First view. Munnar Day 1 trip

We landed Cochin Airport at 9:30 AM from Delhi. From Cochin we fortunately got a direct bus operated by Kyros operator to MUnnar. Thus began the journey to Munnar.
The bus ride was enjoyable with us looking through the beautiful houses that flanked both sides of the narrow road bus was plying on.
Imagining how the natives here would be utilizing beautiful balconies to read books, sip a cup of fresh tea, eat home made snacks.

The journey passes through meandering roads beuatiful which they are if you are nausea tolerant. We finally reached Munnar at 2:00 PM which meant we had half a day to relax and explore munnar on

our own.

We reached our stay whcih was an airbnb home and we got a rare opportunity to smell, eat, live, drink, bath like locals do.

We have booked airbnb earlier also but this one was so remotely located amidst hills, tree tops, tea estates all around - me and akshay smiled at each other that we have definitely made a great

choice.

We immediately left after having a hearty lunch of Dosa, sambhar at Laxamans house and started on foot to see what munnar had to offer.

We boarded the local bus - interestingly the buses dont have windows at all in here - so there is no sweating as the cool breeze lashes at you. We requested the cooperative driver( like all the

munnar people whom we found exceedingly hospitable & helpful) to drop us at Kannan Devan Tea museum.
Its easily approchable via auto once bus drops you at munnar town.

At kannan Devan Tea museum we watched an enlightening video whcih intrdouced us with the entire history of Munnar. The town was discovered by britishers in 1880s who with help of local men here

discovered tea friendly terrains and made several business investments to conevrt it into what it is today. After the floods of 1924 destroyed the infra built with much efforts here including dam,

bridges, tea plantations - Finlay another british company took massive inetrest in rebuilding Munnar town. Several activities were done to make tea planetsr life better. Tata also entered here

shortly and introduced many community building schemes, opened schools, hospitals etc to help planters live a balanced life while working hard for picking tea.
17 factories stand right now in Munnar - with tata and finlay having pulled back - and entire tea plantations are now on lease to Kannan Devan tea society.

This informative video was followed by Visit to the tea plantation - 4 varieties of tea(Green, Black, powdered, White) explained and oen was taken through the factory.

The tour is marked to an end by Kannan Devan retail shop where one can buy from the huge variety of tea, chocolates etc.

Since we still had time we hired a local auto to Hydel park. This park is beautiful and is worth a walk.
Fountains, amidst multi colored flowers, wood carved benches - everything makes it an enthereal place to enjoy.

We being so tired we sat on a swing and just looked around. Our stressed mind breathing in the peace and calming down, gulping in the slowness in the surroundings.

We then finally called it a day. Liking Munnar - and ready to love it the next day when we will see more of it.
